THE MAIN STREET MODEL

The approach we take follows the “Main Street” model of economic development, developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Now in place in more than 1,000 communities around the country, it’s geared especially toward historic downtown districts that hit upon hard times when shopping malls, big box stores, and chain restaurants came to dominate the dining and retail sectors.

WE OPERATE IN FOUR KEY AREAS:

Cambridge Main Street is proudly part of the Maryland Main Street Program. Main Street Maryland selects communities that have committed to succeed and help them improve the economy, appearance, and image of their traditional downtown business districts. To accomplish Main Street goals, the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has partnered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center.
