The workshops offer a great opportunity to spend time with friends or make new friends, while doing something creative. The Blue Awning can also arrange private customized workshops for you and your friends. Contact Mary Ann (240-602-4472) or Beth (240-498-5762) to discuss the details.

This workshop will introduce you to the amazing IOD moulds. We’ll use paper clay to form an assortment of decorative moulds that will then be used to embellish two flower pots. You may also decide to add an IOD pot transfer to your piece. You’ll use DIY Paint to paint and glaze the pots that can be used for herbs on your kitchen windowsill or a place to hold pens or paint brushes. All materials and supplies will be provided.

Instructors: Mary Ann McNamara and Beth Kline

Date/Time: Sunday, June 9; 1:00 – 3:00pm

Cost: $35, price is all inclusive

This class is a great introduction to Iron Orchid Designs stamps and transfers. We’ll be using IOD stamps of your choice to ink a tea towel and linen bag, and then you’ll use DIY Paint and IOD stamps or transfers to create a set of four coasters. This workshop is the perfect way to learn about the amazing IOD stamps and transfers and to get your feet wet with their processes. All materials and supplies will be provided.

Title: Create a Hypertufa Garden Planter

Instructors: Mary Ann McNamara and Beth Kline

Date/Time: Sunday, June 23; 9:00 am – noon

Cost: $40, price is all inclusive

You will create a beautiful garden planter that will last for years. The term “hypertufa” refers to a type of artificial stone, and is a conglomerate of the words “tufa”, natural volcanic rock; and “hyper”, a prefix meaning excessively or extremely. You can use almost anything that has an interesting shape for a mold, such as cardboard boxes, plastic pots, etc. Hypertufa containers are great for displaying rock garden plants or succulents and are much lighter than concrete pots. This workshop is really hands-on and we encourage you to dress accordingly. Please note that the planters will have to cure for 48 hours, so you will need to schedule a time to return to the shop to unmold the planter and fine tune the shape.

Title: Create a Paintable Décor Transfer Artist Board

Instructors: Mary Ann McNamara and Beth Kline

Date/Time: Sunday, July 14; 1:00 – 4:00pm or Wednesday, July 17; 5:30 – 8:30pm

Cost: $45, price is all inclusive

Paintable transfers from Iron Orchid Designs provide a whole new dimension to the creative process. Their versatility makes it possible for you to make your project completely unique. During this workshop, you’ll transfer a neutral floral design onto the sample board painted with DIY Paint and then tint the design with a minimal or maximum amount of colors and transparency.

Title: Decorate a Wood Noodle Board

Instructors: Mary Ann McNamara and Beth Kline

Date/Time: Sunday, July 21; 1:00 – 4:00pm

Cost: $75, price is all inclusive

Come join in the fun and make a beautiful noodle board for your home. Noodle boards were originally used to roll out and cut noodles by hand, but this workshop will take the boards to a whole new level. These decorative pieces can be used as a tray on an ottoman, a portable bar on your patio, or added counter space when your stove isn’t in use. The boards are 22” x 30” and you’ll have the option of choosing from DIY Paint colors for the noodle board. You’ll choose from a selection of IOD décor stamps or transfers to decorate your noodle board. All materials and supplies will be provided.
