Spring Fling this Saturday!

Cambridge celebrates revitalization efforts at annual Spring Fling gala

Downtown Cambridge prepares to celebrate an exciting 2018 at its annual Spring Fling gala. The event will help kick off the downtown lighting project and honor the work of exceptional people, projects, and businesses helping to revitalize the City.

Carol Levy Ruark, past owner of A Few of My Favorite Things, later re-branded as The Wine Bar will be posthumously awarded the Marjorie S. Lednum Award for exceptional volunteerism and advocacy for downtown revitalization. Levy opened up her boutique cheese, wine, and kitchen retail shop when few would venture into the downtown. She was an avid advocate for efforts that brought traffic and visibility to the district. She sold the business in 2016 to current owners Ed Johnson and Randy Decker of Easton. Ruark passed away in 2018 after a short battle with cancer.

The event will also celebrate the coming downtown lighting project and announce what’s next for the project, a fund-a-need initiative begun in 2017. Cambridge Main Street has been working with city representatives, businesses, and property owners to string decorative lights across the street in an effort to create a welcoming and inviting space. Annapolis currently strings lights during the holiday but these lights will be piloted to potentially stay up year round. The first block to be installed will be the 500 block of Poplar Street.

Cambridge Main Street hosts its annual gala event at Dorchester Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 6th.  Heavy Hor’ Devours and dessert are provided by Jimmie and Sook’s, Bistro Poplar, and T’s Divine Sweets with a cash bar. Tickets include 1 drink ticket. Live music and dancing with The Evolution Band led by Gil Cephas. The event boasts a lively live and silent auction and a fun “Heads or Tails” game.

Spring Fling is generously supported by 1880 Bank, Benson and Mangold, Xerox Delmarva Document Solutions, Michelle Barnes Attorney at Law, and Cambridge Yacht Maintenance.
