Shore Shakespeare Company announces its 2019 summer tour production: The Merchant of Venice. The tour commences on August 30 and 31 at Long Wharf Park in Cambridge, with show times at 6:00 pm both days.
- Performances are FREE and are held outdoors.
- Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy while watching the performance.
This year’s play, considered both a “problem play” and a comedy, is one of Shakespeare’s more controversial works. Set in 16th Century Venice, The Merchant of Venice is on the surface a romantic comedy featuring a love tested by obstacles. But the play also examines the darker themes of intolerance, tribalism, betrayal and revenge.
