ARTober

“ARTober” hosted downtown this Saturday, October 14th

CAMBRIDGE, MD – Downtown businesses host a special Second Saturday, on October 14th 5pm – 8pm, called “ARTober”.  All are welcome to visit downtown for a fun and art-filled stroll through downtown. Highlights include chalk artwork along the sidewalks, a performance by Tommy Buckets, receptions at galleries and shops, live musical performances, and more.

Businesses will also be jazzing up the sidewalks with unique chalk art in front of their shops, hosting receptions for Second Saturday strollers, and featuring special Second Saturday sales. Thomas’s Fine Jewelry, 525 Poplar Street, will host local craft artist Kateri Chen. Sunnyside Shop host graphic artist and illustrator Erick Sahler. Both Sunnyside and Butterfly Boutique will host special sales and receptions. The High Spot features an outdoor display of the work of Chris Hubbard, local spray paint artist. Stop by Jewelry by Cottage Studio, 410 Race Street, to learn more about their jewelry making classes. The Wine Bar, also hosts their Second Saturday wine tasting reception.

Craig’s Pharmacy and gift shop will feature photographer Jay Fleming, including a special promotion when purchasing Fleming’s “Working  the Water”. Honey Bee Trading at Fishing Creek Barber Shop, 432 Race Street, will feature the artwork of local craftsman Kevin Davidson and Jewelry artist April Dean Goodman from 5pm – 8pm. Goodman will host a wine reception with prize giveaways for those who stop in during the Second Saturday reception.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Black Water Bakery located at 429 Race Street hosts a special benefit for “Women Supporting Women” fundraiser between 5pm – 9pm. The event includes live music, specialty drinks, dinner and desserts.

Calista’s Boutique, now in residence downtown at 406 Race Street, will host Tommy Buckets, a Dorchester County native now touring with his interactive performance using 3 gallon buckets and more. This is a fun and interactive performance for all ages.

In the galleries, Main Street Gallery, located at 518 Poplar Street, hosts their Second Saturday reception plus a potter’s wheel demonstration outside. Their current gallery show features a celebration of 5 years in operation. Dorchester Center for the Arts, 321 High Street, hosts their Community Photography and Digital Arts Exhibit and Competition. Cash prizes will be awarded in each division for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place. Cash prizes will also be awarded for Best Use of Light (one award for each division). Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held as part of Second Saturday on October 14, 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Liv Again, 317 High Street, hosts an “UPcycle Design & Art Show” featuring the functional art pieces by Adrian Holmes starting at 6pm. From 2pm – 4pm The Art Bar upstairs at 317 High, hosts a “Yoga and Self-Healing Workshop”, a meditative exercise of healing. Contact Jade Vine at for more information.

Looking for something fun to do in celebration of autumn? The Robin Hood Shop hosts a fun and festive pumpkin decorating contest with prizes! A special pumpkin decorating opportunity is also available just for the kids. Call the shop at 410-228-6339 to register in advance and for more information.
